ReflectionI care very deeply about this standard, and am concerned about the speed at which schools and teachers embrace new technology without pausing to ensure that students are trained in digital citizenship, and that the technology is used in a way to increase access and inclusion. Often, technology integration may be pursued with positive intentions, but the fallout for unprepared students and communities can be immense. It is especially important to consider equity, accessibility, and inclusion in technology integration, and ensuring that the digital divide is not widened through our lack of consideration.
For this standard, my first artifact is a research paper I wrote early in the program, which investigated equity of technology access among community college students, and laid out evidence for improving access. The second artifact is an analysis of a dissertation that looks at the ways that employee development activities foster wellness among employees. I felt that this was a reflection of this standard because often when decisions are made for employee development, decision makers do not stop to gain feedback from the people whose lives they are affecting. An inclusive workplace means that all voices have to be at the table, and this analysis reflects some ways to do that. The third artifact is an executive summary and accompanying infographic that looks at the ways that feminist theory intersects with Human Capital Development. The empowerment of populations that have not been the focus of a lot of research is important to this standard, which is why I felt this artifact was closely aligned. |
